Architecture and the built environment should not resolve to only meet the needs of its inhabitants but should aim to exceed it. As a transplant to Los Angeles, coming from a rural area, Samuel's design philosophies are rooted in nature. Whether developed for an urban or pastoral site each project should form a harmonious and symbiotic relationship with the surrounding landscape they inhabit. The aesthetic interplay of nature, light, space, art, and architecture all inform the design of an effective space. Samuel measures the success of each project by its ability to respond to the cultural, natural, and physical context of the site.
Only after exhaustive research of the site, program, and building elements does the planning process begin. Each project Samuel designs and develops is custom tailored to the unique conditions of the site. Views, topography, microclimate, and site access are all factors in the initial planning stages of design. The future of the site and project 5, 10, 20, even 50 years into the future should be taken into consideration as well.
Design can cover a multitute of subjects outside the realm of traditional architecture. In addition to architecture Samuel is passionate about graphic design, furniture making and design, interior, and landscape design.
